Abstract

This investigation aims to quantify the effects of two intensities of application of static stretching, based on rating of perceived exertion according to Borg scale, about the range of motion (ROM) of the tibiofemoral joint. 10 male adults, healthy and physically active (29,7 ± 6,3 years, 178,1 ± 5,8 cm and 75,9 ± 8,5 kg), who performed evaluation procedures from the following order were involved: i) evaluation of ROM pre-warm-up; ii) warm-up on cycle ergomete;r iii) evaluation of ROM post-warm-up; iv) strong or very strong stretching; and v) evaluation of ROM after intervention. As interventions, the strong stretching was considered 13-15, and the very strong, 17-19, based on Borg scale, respectively. There was difference in ROM in pre-warm-up ( 107,30 ± 4,56 º) when the two different intensities, F ( 137,20 ° ± 3,56 , p < 0,01) and MF ( 148,20 ± 6,20 ° ; p <0,01) were compared. The post-warm-up (111,75 ± 4,42°) showed values of ROM statistically different for the two stretching intensities (p<0,01). Yet, the range of motions pre-warmup and post-warm-up showed differences between them (p <0,01). Therefore, two protocols of static stretching with equal length and different intensities produce distinct acute effects in ROM of the knee joint in flexion, being that the Very Sstrong produced higher scores.
