Public spendings and potential quality of education in Minas Gerais: an analysis from 2006 to 2010

This article aims to analyze how the public resources invested in education activities influence the level of quality of education in the cities of the state of Minas Gerais, in Brazil. Therefore, we used a data model in dynamic panel, within a period of five years, relating the General Index of Educational Quality (IEQ) with the applied use in education and characteristics of cities and schools. Overall, it was found that the per capita resources invested in education, Internet access for students, GDP per capita municipal and the attendance rate of students to schools are factors that positively contribute to the IEQ. In addition, it is observed that, on average, the municipalities of Minas Gerais have positive dynamic profiles in what comer to quality of education. This means that the quality of education in the current period contributed positively to the increase of the same quality in future times.
