Recyclable Collectors Networks: Perspective for the Organization of Self-Management

The paper presents the structure of social relations of recyclable material collectors in six municipalities in the state of Pará. It uses Social Network Analysis (ARS) as the analytical methodology. The theoretical basis were the theses on the strength of "weak ties" by Granovetter (1973). The data were generated in a semi-open questionnaire, organized in the SPSS 16.0 and the UCINET 6.109/NetDraw 2.28softwares. Other information, derived from free interviews and observations, were used for complementation. The results show that the predominant relationships were fragile and emotional, with low-density relations at work, which makes the social and productive organization of collectors harder, prevents its self-management, reduces the potential that the material collectionbusiness and its processing represent, weakening the collector as the main agent.
