The Programme for Food Acquisition (PAA) and its effects in the municipalities of Rio Grande do Norte - 2005-2011

Abstract: This paper analyzes the effects of the operation of the Program of Food Acquisition (PAA) in Rio Grande do Norte (RN) from 2005 to 2011, with thehighlight the impact of federal government spending, with regard to purchases of products offered in the RN, the growth of GDP per capita of the municipalitiesinvolved. Methodological procedure conducted the study combining quantitative and qualitative approaches via Content Analysis, Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)and regression model with panel data. It was found that the largest amount of resources focuses on modality operations via Purchase for Simultaneous Donation(Donation CPR). The estimates of the regression model with panel data showed that the purchases made by the Federal Government with the cooperativescontribute significantly to the growth of GDP per capita of the counties. Thus, an increase of 1% of purchases made by the Federal Government with thecooperatives, contributes to growth of GDP per capita of approximately 0.062%. So that this variable exerts a considerable influence on its growth.
