Access to financial services provides opportunities for improving the agricultural output, food security and economic vitality of entire communities and nations. When producers are unable to make the necessary upfront investments or cannot take additional risks, they have to forego opportunities to increase their productivity, increase their income and improve their well-being. The institutional impact of credit on agricultural production in Mozambique has not yet been studied. This paper analyzes the role of credit in the development of commercial poultry activity in Mozambique and Brazil. To fulfil that objective several articles published in different scientific journals were consulted, using the Mendeley cite tool; English was the language used, where the keywords were poultry, production chain, credit and the Boolean indicators used were AND, OR and NOT. Results suggest that: a) Mozambican and Brazilian companies consider the commercial credit as an excellent stimulator of productive investments; b) the availability and access to commercial credit in Brazil is relatively greater, and the banks are receptive to financing poultry sector (small, medium and large companies) for technological, productive and commercial support and infrastructure; c) in Mozambique, access to credit for the poultry industry is restricted, insufficient and the banks prefer to finance other areas in relation to poultry/agriculture due to the risks associated with this activity. It is crucial the mobilization of financial resources from different actors to promote the entire production chain and improve competitiveness, with an emphasis on the production of yellow corn, soybeans and other raw materials to reduce the cost of purchasing feed.
