Use of agricultural inputs and access to agricultural extension services in Mozambique
Abstract
Data from the 2020 and 2021 household survey of small and medium farms in Mozambique were used to assess the extent to which selected households responded about input use and access to agricultural extension services. The data indicate a positive evolution in terms of adhesion of producers to associativism and access to extension services that have benefits for producers in terms of participation in associative organizations and use of inputs; however, the acquisition of credit by assisted producers is still low. It is recommended (a) to increase the effect of credit acquisition through policies on interest rates, presentation of collateral and reduction of distances to banks; (b) improve the effects of farmers' organizations through measures improving how they function and the capacity to negotiate with contract farming companies.
