Abstract

The differences in chronological age among the same age group are called relative age and their consequences are called of Relative Age Effect. It is known that the maturation, the competition and the social workers are essential for the Relative Age Effect. The study aimed to analyze the Relative Age Effect’s guiding factors. The biological, technical, tactical, psychological, cognitive and social factors influence directly on the existence of the effect. However, without the necessary factor, also named “competition”, the effect might not exist. Thus, it all appears that a possible solution might be related to the formal competition in the youth teams. In short, knowing the guiding factors of the Relative Age Effect is fundamental to know how to deal with athletes who have disadvantages by being born in an unfavorable date in relation their sport cutoff date.
