Abstract
Research objective: To understand the articulation of emotions in organizational practices in a public agency in Minas Gerais.
Theoretical framework: Emotions are seen from political and constructivist points of view, understanding them as products and producers of reality. In this way, emotions are part of human rationality and consciously or unconsciously integrate organizational practices (Zietsma & Toubiana, 2018; Oliveira & Cavedon, 2019).
Methodology: A qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research was carried out. Data collection took place through semi-structured interviews with sixteen workers from the researched public agency from January to July 2021. Data were analyzed by Content Analysis.
Results: Some relations between interviewees’ emotions and feelings with common organizational practices were pointed out, revealing how bureaucratic structure and power relations influence emotional experiences. The research concludes that certain types of organizational practices contribute to a healthier and more constructive integration of emotional dynamics at work.
Originality: Many studies that approach the theme of emotions in organizations start from polarizations between reason and emotions. Here, we demonstrate how emotions integrate rationalities in organizational practices. The vast majority also start from functionalist approaches, neglecting political and relational aspects.
Contributions and practices: This article contributes to broaden the debate on emotions in Administration and Organizational Studies, considering how emotions are articulated in organizational practices and underlying rationalities. In this way, it points to possible paths towards the construction of work environments that are more conducive to emotional development.
