Abstract

Research Objective: Analyze the research on compassionate cities in the context of urban design in an integrative manner.

Theoretical Framework: The research is situated within the domain of compassionate cities in urban design, where citizen life takes center stage. This approach leverages Human Motivation Theory as a tool to enhance human dignity within these spaces.

Methodology: The research employed integrative literature review. The review encompassed 7 relevant databases in the field of social sciences, resulting in 36 selected articles. Content analysis was performed on full articles, with predefined categories.

Results: The review reveals four analytical frameworks characterizing research on compassionate communities and cities, encompassing their models and projects. The key outcomes provide a deeper understanding of the current state of knowledge on this subject.

Originality: This study stands out for its innovative approach to the concept of compassionate cities within urban design, addressing gaps in existing literature. The authors' propositions highlight areas where research can contribute to the development of this emerging field.

Theoretical and Practical Contributions: The study yields significant implications for advancing urban design theory and contributes to Public Administration and Social Management fields. Implications also extend to practice, offering valuable insights for fostering compassionate communities and developing public policies and management strategies in urban contexts.
