This study cheked the legitimacy of the benefits offered by Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO) for agents involved in obtaining a Fairtrade seal in a coffee cooperative in Minas Gerais: the producers, the cooperative, the environment and society. The research, qualitative and exploratory, is descriptive too. Also, the study is a field research and case study. The primary data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews and secondary data through literature search, electronic networks, books and scientific articles. The findings note that not all agents validate the benefits offered by FLO. The data concerning the society showed great lack of knowledge among the population regarding the process and the benefits of certification. As the producers and the cooperative, they had some knowledge and legitimized many of the benefits, citing including some not directly cited by FLO. In relation to the environment, it was noted that producers recognize the benefits that Fairtrade provides to seal them, though the government, represented by the secretary of environment, does not have the same perception.
