Political conjuncture and challenges: what do we know about our democracy in Brazil, and what the youth feel about it?

Abstract

Is the thickening of popular movements around the world in recent decades, showing dissatisfaction with public order situations, the result of more democracy? Or the inability of the democratic state to be present? In Brazil, what is the moment of democracy? The purpose of this text is to understand the current political moment, seeking to observe how the Brazilian evaluates democracy. From this, what could high school youth from public schools in Metropolitan Area of São Paulo say about this theme? Here is what is unheard of in this text: the five-year assessment of the perception of such students collected through the application of closed questionnaires. It will be possible to see positive and negative results capable of subsidizing relevant debates about reality, assuming that there is an ongoing change in the perception of researched portions of society about the meaning of politics and democracy.

Humberto Dantas Humberto Dantas, Escola de Administração de Empresas da Fundação Getulio Vargas de São Paulo - FGV EAESP.

Doutor (dez-2007) e mestre (mai-2002) em Ciência Política pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP), com graduação em Ciências Sociais pela mesma universidade. Pós-doutorando em Administração Pública pela FGV-SP. Diretor-presidente da Escola do Parlamento da Câmara Municipal de São Paulo de abril de 2017 a novembro de 2018. Coordena o Máster em Liderança e Gestão Pública (MLG) do CLP-Liderança Pública, e a especialização em Ciência Política da Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo.

Marco Antônio Carvalho Teixeira, Escola de Administração de Empresas da Fundação Getulio Vargas de São Paulo - FGV EAESP.

Mestrado em Ciências Sociais (1999) e doutorado em Ciências Sociais (2004) pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. É professor-adjunto e pesquisador do Departamento de Gestão Pública junto a Escola de Administração de Empresas da Fundação Getulio Vargas de São Paulo (FGV EAESP), onde leciona nos cursos de graduação em Administração Pública e Administração de Empresas, bem como no Mestrado e Doutorado em Administração Pública e Governo e, também, no Mestrado Profissional em Gestão e Políticas Públicas.
