THE DRUG CRIMINALIZATION IN BRAZIL: A GENEALOGY OF PROHIBITION

Abstract

This paper analyzes the emergence, development and consolidation of the drug criminalization in the Brazilian criminal policy. A genealogical approach was chosen, analyzing the Brazilian and international speeches adopted on the subject to justify the repressive policy and underlie its legal regulations. The current Brazilian drug policy germinate in the thirties, growing from then until today, influenced by the speech of the central countries, notably the US, and rooted in the ideologies of Social Defense, National Security and Law and Order.
