This paper examines the transition from monarchical power to a republican system, highlighting the complexity of fraternity as a social metaphor. The French Revolution is examined in relation to the creation of a power vacuum, where the abolition of the monarchy led to the replacement of the figure of the king with the body of the nation. This new power is described as impersonal, reflecting society's inability to recognise itself and establish a new order. In this context, brotherhood appears as a concept that transcends the real and refers to an imaginary sphere characterised by ties of descent and biological connections. Fraternity is thus presented not only as a political ideal, but also as a social phenomenon that seeks to consolidate the foundations of the Republic in a context of diversity and complexity.
