Abstract

this teaching case presents the challenges and emotions experienced in João's management practice as coordinator of a change process in workflows in a public organization. The narrative describes how changes and relationships with co-workers and family members influenced the protagonist's emotions and behavior. The emotional experiences experienced by the manager, such as joy, sadness, and fear, as well as anger because of the injustice perceived from an authoritarian and centralized decision by top management, led João to live a dilemma as a public manager: remain in the role or request your resignation. The Case allows the reader to reflect on emotional awareness, the negative effects of emotional dissonance at work and emotional regulation strategies in family life and work. Although the case is based on real life situations, the organization, its characters, and situations are fictional. The case was drawn from two sources of data: the film inside out and interviews with managers in management positions in public administration.
