Research objective: The objective of this study is to expand the theoretical and practical understanding of factors that affect the common good from the perspective of deliberative citizenship (Tenório, 1998, 2007, 2012).
Theoretical framework: The methodological basis comes from recent experience (Costa, 2018), in which the effects of transparency and participation on the deliberative process were studied and whose main limitation was not adopting indicators for the construct corresponding to the common good.
Methodology: For the validation of this theoretical model, structural equation modeling was used (Hair, Hult, Ringle, & Sarstedt, 2017), applied to a sample of 209 respondents from several Brazilian states.
Results: In this work, the structural model of deliberative citizenship is improved, concluding that transparency and participation, mediated by the deliberative process, positively affect the common good.
Originality: Expansion of the structural model created previously based on the criteria of deliberative citizenship.
Theoretical and practical contributions: The contribution is mainly methodological, as the structural model of deliberative citizenship can be used in research quantitative studies for the investigation of several factors that influence the construction of the good ordinary.
