Abstract

The poultry industry of hens, and eggs, annually generate a large volume of waste in the form of manure. The hen bird dung is the main waste generated in the production of eggs and requires an infrastructure for proper treatment. Therefore, the aim of this review is to address the management of solid waste of hen, in particular using the digester in order to minimize negative environmental impacts caused by the poultry activity. In this sense, it is noteworthy that the anaerobic digestion helps to minimize the negative impacts that are generated to the environment, reducing environmental risks and improving quality of life. It should be noted, however, that there are cases in which these residues have been used as a fertilizer, but without prior treatment and management prior to application to the soil. The poultry manure has the potential to be both a resource and a pollutant. In summary, under the aspect of good practice of waste management, the digester is an alternative for the treatment of the hen bird dung. It is concluded that the management and treatment of solid waste in the process of laying anaerobic digestion is environmentally desirable.
