Abstract

Maintainance of viability of seeds of fleshy fruits by storing has been one of the most important lines of research for the seeds of many species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different packaging types and environments, and the storage period on germination and vigor of pumpkin seeds. The work was conducted in the storage laboratory of agricultural products, in the UNIVASF. The seeds were packed in paper and plastic and kept in laboratory environment and in cold camera. The seeds were stored for zero, three, six and 12 months after the experiment. It was evaluated the water content, germination end seed vigor. Among the main results, it can see that it is feasible to store pumpkin seeds for 12 months, since the endogenous dormancy is broken after this retention period. Plastic packaging was deemed more appropriate.
