Due to the growing importance of environmental preservation, a consensus is sought between economic efficiency and ecological prudence in terms of social responsibility and environmental management in the development of organizations. In this scenario, this research aimed to analyze the effects on the statements of the mining company VALE S.A after the rupture of the dams in the cities of Mariana and Brumadinho in Minas Gerais. The empirical strategy consisted of using averages tests and regression models, using the period from December 2011 to June 2019 on a quarterly basis as a reference. Among the main results, it should be noted that indebtedness suffered the greatest effects in December 2015. This shows greater dependence on third party capital and greater risk of default. The survey concluded that the effects were minimal due to the rapid recovery of the indicators in a context of market crisis in conjunction with the environmental accident.
