Anthropometric assessment and food and nutrition education in shelter institutions: experience report

The institutionalized people are in a situation of social vulnerability, with its rights weakened. This work aimed to present the experience report of a university extension project carried out in 2023 in four reception institutions in the city of Alegre-ES, three of which are part of the municipal assistance network and one Therapeutic Community that receive chemically dependent women for rehabilitation. The project carried out analysis and monitoring anthropometric status of residents. In addition, monthly Food and Nutrition Education actions were carried out. The prevalence of overweight in the institutions evaluated was worrying, ranging from 44.5 to 64.8%. Nutritional monitoring through the project proved to be relevant for prevention and recovery of the health of institutionalized individuals.
