University extension project: a playful approach involving biotechnology for primary school students in Belém – PA

The objective was to describe the experiences and impacts of playful tools, employed during the I Plant Biotechnology Exhibition extension event, in the dissemination of biotechnology for elementary school students. Therefore, games and banners were developed and used in lectures at the event for students from the 1st to 4th year of two schools, the public school E.E.E.F. Prof. Virgílio Libonati and the private school Centro de Ensino Integrado Hage, both located in Belém/PA and the behavior of the students involved was evaluated. As a result, it was observed that the prior knowledge of the students about biotechnology was very scarce, and that the playful material developed stimulated the curiosity, engagement and learning of the students on the subject. Thus, it is concluded that the experiences obtained were positive and that the use of playful tools favors the knowledge and curiosity of elementary school students in the area of biotechnology.
