The objective of this study was to develop an equation to estimate longevity of coffee seeds using the Probit Model. Published survival curves of coffee seeds, stored under different temperatures and moisture contents, were transformed to probit and used in linear and non-linear multiple regressions to determine the coefficients of viability equations. The results showed adequate fitting in a quadratic model with a standard deviation of 8.9% germination, compared to 15.1% in the traditional model. The non-linear regression compared to the multiple linear regression, gave lower (1.5 to 2.2 times) standard deviation to determine the coefficient of the equation of the standard deviation of distribution frequency of dead seed during the storage period (?). The coffee seeds did not behave as orthodox seeds, as indicated by the non linear variations of the logarithm of ? as a function of the variations of the logarithm of the seed moisture content.Downloads
