Abstract

This study was done to evaluate the initial stand establishment of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris, L.) in the no-tillage system. A 4 x2 factorial scheme was used in a randomized block design with four replications. Four displacement speeds and two fertilizer deposition depths were combined. Longitudinal distribution uniformity of seedlings, emergence percentage, emergence velocity index, and mean time for emergence, were evaluated. Maximum percentage of acceptable spacing and least spacing values were obtained at displacement speed of 3 and 6 km h-1. The effect of fertilization depth on mean emergence time was confirmed. The least days for bean emergence were at the lowest fertilizer depth. It was concluded that, under the experimental conditions, the displacement speed for sowing and fertilizer deposition depths influenced establishment of initial bean crop.
