Abstract

Brazil is a major exporter of pork and chicken meats. Two of the factors that favor the success of Brazilian production are related to the rearing environment and management adopted. The thermal comfort indices describe the housing environment, relating measurable climatic factors such as temperature, solar radiation, relative humidity and air velocity. Assessment of these indices requires constant calculation, not always possible in the farm production environment. In this sense, the aim of this work was to develop a software which calculates the thermal comfort indices, identifying optimal rearing scenarios with regards to thermal comfort of finishing pigs and broilers, and suggests actions for the producer to mitigate risks. The principles of software engineering were applied using the identified algorithms, in order to develop the software. Automatic calculation of the indices and comparison with ideal situations allowed for establishing better control of the production environment, assisting the producer in decision making related to the management of acclimatization.
