Abstract

The objective of the present study was to quantify the visible losses in mechanical sugarcane harvest for two commercial varieties of sugarcane with the harvester at two speeds. The data was collected at the Santa Clara farm of the COOPERB plant in the Lambari D’Oeste municipality, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks, in a 2 x 2 factorial with the RB 867515 and RB 92579 sugarcane varieties and a John Deere Model 3520 harvester in two forward speeds of 3.2 km h-1 and 3.6 km h-1, and after harvest the areas of each plot were defined (6.0 m wide and 4.0 m long), quantifying the visible losses. The harvester speeds, along with the varietal characteristics of the cultivars influenced the visible losses in the studied parameters. The variables chopped billetes and whole stalks were those with greater percentage of losses compared with the other variables. The variety RB 867515 is not found among those with acceptable losses.
