The use of saline water and nitrogen fertilization in sunflower crops is the focus of many studies due to the economic importance of this crop and the need to expand it to the semiarid regions of Brazil. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the growth and yield components of sunflower variety Embrapa 122/V-2000 under the effect of salinity of irrigation water and nitrogen fertilizer. The experiment was conducted from January 6 to April 7, 2012 in the city of Campina Grande, Brazil. The treatments consisted of five electrical conductivity levels of irrigation water (0.6, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 dS m-1) and five nitrogen rates (60, 80, 100, 120 and 140% of recommended). The maximum reduction caused by salinity on plant height, stem diameter, leaf area and total dry weight of shoots, the heads and the achenes were 28, 35, 58, 59, 64, 52 and 45%, respectively. There were no significant effects of nitrogen or the interaction between treatments for any variable analyzed, because excess salts interfered in the effect of nitrogen in the plant.Downloads
