RELEVANT CONDITIONS FOR SUBMISSION

The manuscripts must comply strictly with the rules proposed in the instructions to authors, an essential condition for them to be submitted to evaluation for publication. Authors must register on the journal's portal and submit the manuscript, describing it as a Technical-Scientific Article, Literature Review or Brief Communication.

Manuscripts written in Portuguese, English or Spanish will be accepted.

In addition to the manuscript, a cover letter - written and signed by the corresponding author - must be attached to the submission. The letter must be concise and direct and addressed to the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. Research should be briefly contextualized and the contributions achieved by the work presented, in addition to explaining the reasons the article is of interest to readers and within the scope of the journal Engineering in Agriculture.

Guidelines for authors on the formatting of submitted articles can be seen in the “Submissions” menu.

EDITORIAL PROCESS

After submission of the article, the editorial process will be conducted according to the details in below:

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The review process of articles submitted to Engineering in Agriculture involves a double evaluation including the following steps

  • pre-analysis by the editors (desk review) and
  • analysis by peers, once the article has been approved at the desk review stage

In the desk review, the Editor-in-Chief and other Section Editors of the area to which the article was submitted meet and analyze the article without any identification of the authors, its relevance to the scope of the journal, and the scientific merit of the article for the area of knowledge in question.

When the submitted work does not comply with the journal policies and is inconsistent with the scope of the journal, the authors are notified of the decision within fifteen days from the date of submission. Articles approved at the desk review stage are forwarded to at least two reviewers from the body of reviewers for the assessment using the Double-Blind Review system.

The peers are professors and researchers associated with stricto sensu graduate programs from Brazilian or foreign educational institutions, as well as from renowned research institutions. Evaluations are conducted considering the technical quality and contribution of the manuscript within the area of agriculture and agricultural themes. The evaluators send their opinions after completing a structured form, where they ask about the adequacy of the article in terms of organization, structure, methodology, scientific merit, among other aspects. In addition, the reviewer may attach documents and express comments to be directed to the authors and/or the responsible editor. The manuscript evaluation stage may last up to three months, following which the authors are informed about the editorial decision, which is taken by the relevant editor based on the experts' recommendations. When needed, in the case of disagreement between reviewers or doubt, the editor will consult one or more evaluators to support their editorial decision.

The editorial decision will be forwarded as follows:

  • Accepted
  • Requires revision (Major revision)
  • Requires revision (Minor revision)
  • Rejected

When adjustments to the manuscript are requested by the reviewers, authors will be granted, at the editor's discretion, a period of between thirty and sixty days to incorporate the required suggestions and corrections. In the case of “Required Corrections”, authors will be notified to send three documents via the system: (i) A version of the revised manuscript showing the new/changed text using track changes or highlighting; (ii) A clean version (file without corrections) of the revised manuscript; and (iii) Revision Notes explaining how and where (citing line number) each point of the Editor's/Reviewers' comments has been addressed. Should you disagree with any part of the reviews, please explain why.

Once accepted after the necessary stages of evaluation, the manuscript will be forwarded for Text Editing. At this stage, authors will be asked to send three documents at the end of the stipulated period, which may vary between 30 and 60 days, namely: (i) article in English, (ii) certificate attesting to the revision in English by the company or professionals, recommended on the journal's website and (iii) form completed with the affiliations of the authors and their contributions.

At this stage, the authors must provide the review/translation of the manuscript by contracting companies and professionals recommended by the journal, who are listed in the “Reviewers and Translators” menu. Other companies and/or professionals may be accepted to attest to the quality of the review/translation, however, approval must be requested from the journal. Expenses for revision/translation are the responsibility of the authors.

After the correct submission of the documents required in the Text Editing stage, the editorial flow proceeds to the Editing stage. At this stage, the manuscript will be designed and carefully evaluated by the Editorial office regarding compliance with the bibliographic references used in the manuscript and other current standards. Thereafter, a proof is forwarded to the authors. Doubts of any nature, whether textual, of form, or inadequacy in the quality of figures will be reported to the authors so that the necessary corrections can be made or required actions are taken.

Once accepted by the authors and the Editorial Office, the manuscript in its final version is forwarded to the Editor-in-Chief, who will read it carefully and may request corrections from the office or the authors. If not, the manuscript can be published. The publication takes place in a continuous flow, and the article is then registered with the DOI and published on the journal's website.
