Abstract

This study aims at understanding the main motives, expected impacts and challenges to strategies for internationalization of higher institutions, under the perspective of international offices in charge for those institutions. We highlight that the internationalization theme has drawn attention to the higher institutions (HEIs) once it represents a means to different institutional gains. This way, new conceptions about internationalization are studied as for the reasons why the HEIs seek internationalization. We applied a semi-structured interview to seven coordinators of higher education international offices, to assess the motives, the expected impacts, and the challenges to internationalization. Those interviews were carried out in an international event and taking part on it voluntarily. We, then, used content analysis to interpret the data gathered. Results pointed that the main motives for HEIs to internationalize are of academic/institutional nature and/or sociocultural oriented.
