Education and Social Innovation: The Reciprocal Formation

Abstract

Case context: This teaching case discusses the relationship between education and social innovation, based on one of the episodes of the Brazilian documentary series “Destino: Educação – Escolas Inovadoras” (Futura Channel), broadcast by Globoplay, reflecting how education is associated with social innovation in practice. The aforementioned documentary addresses the Projeto Âncora, a school located in Cotia/SP, due to its innovative characteristics highlighted in the Brazilian context.

The dilemma of the Case: With a Freirean perspective of transformative learning, the case, by emphasizing an autonomous education that contributes to the emancipation of those involved, seeks to answer the following dilemma: “Can Education generate social innovation?”.

Case closure: The initiatives mentioned allow guiding the discussion in both directions: from Education to social innovation and vice versa. Teachers of Higher Education in Administration, Public Management, Pedagogy, and related courses can use the case in subjects that work directly or indirectly on the topics discussed.

Leonardo Ferreira Batista, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco

Doutorando em Administração pelo PROPAD/UFPE e Mestre em Administração pelo PPGA/UFCG. Cursando também a Especialização em Gestão Pública pela UFERSA. Bacharel em Administração pela Universidade Metodista de São Paulo e graduado em Gestão de Pessoas pelo Ceuclar. Atuou em cargos de gestão em empresas de segmentos diversos e estagiou como docente na UFCG. Em sua formação, foi participante de empresa júnior e do Programa de Educação Tutorial (PET) do Ministério da Educação. Principais temáticas de interesse: Inovação Social, Educação, Gestão de Pessoas e tópicos relacionados. Revisou artigos submetidos em eventos como o EnAnpad e em periódicos como Teoria e Prática em Administração e Cadernos EBAPE.

Pós Doutor em Administração (CEPEAD/UFMG, 2020). Doutor em Ciências Humanas: Sociologia e Política (FAFICH/UFMG, 2008), graduado e mestre em Administração pela UFPE (2001, 2003). Pesquisador Associado da Fundação Joaquim Nabuco (FUNDAJ/MEC), onde é Coordenador Científico do Núcleo de Inovação Social em Políticas Públicas (NISP). Professor permanente do Programa de Pós-graduação em Administração da UFPE.
