Abstract

This report narrates the experience of an extension project performed in the Psychology Course of a higher
education institution aiming to expand understanding the theme of the disability under the perspective of the Human
Rights. It uses as theoretical supports the Social Model of the Disability, which introduces a new conception of
deficiency, and the social-historic psychological theory which comprises the human as a historical and social
construction. This is a critical perspective which comprehends the disability as a socially produced concept and that
provides conceptual fundamentals for the struggle for their social inclusion. The development of the project, based on
the deepening of tuned readings with this guideline and the debate with representatives and militants of the class of
disabled people, converged to the political engagement of their participants in favour of the recognition of the
disabled people rights.
