Abstract

This study was done to define appropriate thermal parameters to provide thermal comfort to lactating sow and piglets in lactating cage. Initially, three pre-molded reinforced cement plates were built using different techniques to circulate cold water for lactating sow and heated water for the piglets. In plate-1 (P1) the circulation system was built as internal hollow in snakes from. In plate-2 (P2), a corrugated polyethylene tube in the snake form was embedded in plate. In plate-3 (P3), the P1 was adapted to change the area of water circulation. At the same circulating water temperature, the surface temperature of P1 was about 1ºC higher than that of P2. However, plate P2 was chosen for use due to construction ease and higher thermal inertia.
