The analysis of stress applied at the cutting mecanism of a sugarcane harvester prototype attachable to a small tractor was evaluated in this work. A model to analyze the knife stress was developed using ANSYS 10.0 finite element type software. Models verification was done by comparing ANSYS results to analytical results for simpler problems. A close agreement was found between the developed ANSYS models and analytical solutions. To simulate the application of the forces applied in the knife, a rotor rotation of 1,830 rpm and a rotor power for cutting of 24.5 kW were considered. The maximum equivalent stress found was 138.6 MPa, lower than the breaking point of the material, and its position was at the knife cut border.Downloads
