Abstract

The Rio Grande do Sul is the main state producer and rice storer from Brazil, especially the region of the Western Frontier. The objective of this study was to identify the main critical points for the occurrence of insect pests in two rice storage units in the city of Itaqui, Border West of Rio Grande do Sul. Visual inspections were carried out in two storage units for receiving the crop 2010/2011 and two criteria were established, the existence of adult insects and the accumulation of impurities, waste grain and dust. Inspected up. external and internal parking lot; scales; discharge hoppers; drying area; adjacency of storage silos; beneficiation industry; storage units of finished product; laboratory and classification; grain transportation equipment and elevator shafts and tunnels. The results showed as critical points for the occurrence of pests, external and internal parking lot, the balance, the discharge hoppers, the drying area, the adjacency silos, feet lifts, the conveyor belts and the tunnels of the processing industry. The dust accumulation and debris is mainly responsible for the critical points.
