Abstract

Escola Nacional de Energia Popular (ENEP) is an institution coordinated by a group of social movements, both rural and urban, whose pedagogical method is popular education, acting as an important agent for social inclusion. Considering the need to renovate the physical structure and build new spaces, ENEP's management decided to start planning the readjustments of the area. Then, a formal partnership was established with the Department of Architecture and Urbanism (DAU) of the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) and an extension project was initiated. Several workshops based on codesign methodologies were held in monthly meetings with ENEP’S management and volunteers, so that users of the space could further engage in project decisions, thus reinforcing the sense of belonging and of ownership of the space.
