Diet education and caries prevention
a case report in a riverside community in the Amazon.

This case report describes and analyzes the extension project 'Food and ecological education associated with the prevention of dental caries,' developed in a riverside community in the Amazon Estuary at the Vitória Power Station, located on Ilha das Onças, in the municipality of Barcarena/PA. Motivated by the high rates of caries and lack of basic sanitation, the project involved food and ecological education practices to prevent caries. An integrative literature review was carried out, which identified good practices in food and environmental education and the production of healthy food with the potential to prevent caries. Following the integrative review, a food and ecological education workshop focused on oral health was held in the community. The project presented a proposal for a practical approach to food and environmental education for cultivating fluoride-rich vegetables using recyclable materials.
