Abstract

In an attempt to improve thermal environment for high yielding animals, this study was done with animals yielding 40 kg day-1 in the stall-free milk production system to evaluate the air cooling systems with or without forced ventilation. The east-west oriented experimental facility was 65.6 long, 11.1 m wide, 3.5 m from floor to the ceiling, and 2.8 m eaves, with aluminum covered metallic roof, with 11° inclination and small opening in the ridge. The facility was divided into three parts to compose the following treatments: misting; misting + ventilation and the control. Based on the experimental conditions, the environmental results and animal response, misting + ventilation slightly improved yield and comfort conditions.
