Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the performance of two types of helical fertilizer metering mechanisms, the trans-shipment and gravity, depending upon the leveling and rotation of the drive shaft of the feeder in a mixture of granule fertilizer and mash mix. Currently, the screw type fertilizer metering system is optional in approximately 65.1% of the seed drill models available in the Brazilian market and its performance is largely unknown. We, in the Laboratory of Agricultural Machinery, University of Santa Cruz do Sul, conducted a laboratory evaluation, on test-benches, of the metering mechanisms to determine the amount of product deposited per unit time, and the performance of feeders, depending on the pitch and rotation the drive shaft. Depending on the pitch, there was a significant dose variation at all inclinations. Compared to the gravity type, trans-shipment type feeders showed better performance.
