Abstract

The objective of this work were to quantify the desoxygenation (K1) and reaeration (K2) coefficients of the Turvo Sujo river in different periods of the year and the comparison of the K2 values obtained and the estimated through the equations based on hydraulic variables. Water samples were collected and the flow rates were measured in four periods of the year. The K1 was obtained by nonlinear regression and K2 was obtained using Streeter & Phelps equation. The estimated K1 values were within the typical values for water clean rivers and/or secondary effluent mentioned in the literature. The K2 approached to the typical values of the big rivers with normal speed. In the rainy season the values of K1 were higher than dry season. Values of K2 were inversely proportional to the values of the flow rate river. In the majority of cases the K2 values were overestimated when used equations based in hydraulic variables for estimate of this coefficient.
