This research work aims to understand the implications of foreign direct investment on socio-economic growth and the violation of human rights by mining company Ruby Mining that operates in the administrative posto of Namanhumbir, Montepuez district, Cabo Delgado Province from 2014 to 2019. The research favored the use of qualitative approach methods, with special emphasis on semi-structured interviews with key witnesses, selected according to the functions performed by them. Qualitative data were analysed using discourse analysis grid resulting from the interviews carried out. The research concluded that Ruby Mining’s investment is partially positive with respect to socio-economic growth, including tax revenues produced in favor of the Mozambican state; however, at the local level the changes were not significant, considering the standard of living associated with the number of social infrastructures built by the mining company and the jobs created for the local population. In the period under comprehension, we are also witnessing relevant violations in terms, of human rigths, which led to a decision by the London Court in order to compensate the populations affected by such violence.
