Social Management and Construction of Public Spaces: Reflections from the Brazilian Network of Community Banks of Brazil

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this essay is to present the creation of public spaces by the Community Development Banks (BCDs) while community organizations areable to demonstrate the practice of social management. In this way, we emphasize the notion of public space around the main concepts of social management.We note that the community banks realize the collective management of resources and activities building public spaces of proximity and political articulation. Inthe public spaces of proximity, the community council have a plurality of local actors in order to discuss general aspects of BCDs. Furthermore, the Committeesof Credit Analysis showed the importance of interpersonal and neighborhood relations in decisions. The intermediaries public spaces, such as the networkorganizations of BCDs, are constructing process of institutionalization; achieving support and public funding and discussing the sustainability initiatives.

Doutora em Administração pela UFBA. Mestre em Administração pela UFPE. Graduação em Adminstração de Cooperativas pela UFV. Atualmente é professora da Escola de Administração da UFBA. Pesquisa e atua nas áreas Organizações e Gestão Social, Economia e Finanças Solidária, Moedas Sociais e Território.

Airton Cardoso Cançado, Universidade Federal de Tocantins

Pós-doutorando em Administração pela EBAPE/FGV (2013), Doutor em Administração pela UFLA (2011), Mestre em Administração pela UFBA (2004) e graduado em Administração com Habilitação em Adm. de Cooperativas pela UFV (2003). Atualmente é Coordenador do Núcleo de Economia Solidária da Universidade Federal do Tocantins - NESol/UFT e professor do Programa de Pós-graduação em Desenvolvimento Regional e do Curso de Administração da UFT. Participa das Rede de Pesquisadores em Gestão Social - RGS e da Rede Universitária de Incubadoras Tecnológicas de Cooperativas Populares - Rede de ITCPs e do Observatório Brasileiro do Cooperativismo.
