In this research, we present an experience with the use of the Golden Material and Place Value Chart (QVL) in mathematics classes at the Municipal School of Elementary School Irmão Pio Barroso. The aim of the study was to investigate the contributions of using the Golden Material and QVL in teaching the decimal numbering system, especially the representation of decimal numbers in a 6th grade class. The investigative activities with didactic material aimed at the construction and strengthening of the previous knowledge that students acquired in previous years, giving continuity to later contents related to fundamental operations and decimal numbers. A qualitative researchaction study was developed based on a problem experienced in teaching practice in relationto the teaching of decimal numbers. The research instruments were the researcher's field diary, questionnaire and material produced by the students. The results highlighted are the contributions experienced by students related to class participation, interaction with colleagues, socialization of doubts and verbalization of concepts related to the representationof decimal numbers. The study contributes to the field of mathematical education by highlighting the potential of Material Dourado and QVL for the study of decimal numbers in 6th grade classes and it is suggested to carry out further research.
