In this work, a microstrip antenna to operate at the frequency of 5.8 GHz is proposed with arrays of metallic metamaterial cells (MTMs) to improve its performance through field enhancement. For this, a cells array of the Capacitive Loaded Loop (CLL) type is inserted into the substrate of the antenna, being distributed in the form of a matrix of 5 × 7 resonator elements. The antenna array was proposed and analyzed in the 0º and 90º positions. It was verified that the resonator metamaterial elements are responsible for a better performance of the antennas in some parameters in relation to the standard microstrip antenna, that is, there was an increase in the bandwidth of 21.43%, and a lower reflection coefficient in 27.37% in the 0º position. For the 90º position, there was only a 19.24% increase in bandwidth. In addition, it is observed that it is possible to work with lower frequencies due to the wide range of frequencies in the analyzed positions, allowing a reduction in the size of the standard microstrip antenna.
