APPLICATION OF THE FENTON PROCESS FOR DECONTAMINATION OF AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS IN WATER

The Fenton process is an advanced oxidative process (AOP) that is utilized very often due to its high efficiency and simplicity, that consists of adding hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by Fe+2. The objective of this study is the decontamination of water contaminated by direct contact with gas. The application of the reagents follows a 2² design of experiment with center point, varying the concentration of the reagents, so that each sample was analyzed after 1 and 3 hours of reaction. Cu+2 was used to evaluate the influence of this mixture in the reaction. The samples were extracted by hexane and characterized by gas chromatography, analyzing the percentage of hydrocarbons removed. Using only Fe+2, showed degradations above 60%. The addition of Cu+2, although viable, presented worse results, in some cases the results obtained were not conclusive. It has also been observed that the removal of these compounds requires reaction time greater than 1 hour to be effective.Downloads
