Abstract

The droplet population on leaf surface during the spray influences control efficacy of phytosanitary problems. Considering the type of treatment and the product to be used, a minimum droplet number per unit surface should be defined. This study was done to evaluate the population characteristics and spectrum of the droplets produced by the air-assisted spray. The following factors were studied: type of nozzle, volume of liquid applied, air assistance and its influence on the percent coverage and density of droplet population. An experiment was set up in a randomized block design with 2 x 2 x 2 factorial with four replications: types of nozzle (hollow cone spray nozzle, Jacto model JA-4, or fan-type nozzle, Jacto model AXI-110-04), liquid volume (200 or 400 L ha-1) and with or without air assistance. The air assistance in the bar increased the droplets density on leaf surface.
