Sociopolitical and economic elements reflected in the incarceration of minors in conflict with the law in mozambique (2016-2018)

Abstract

The finding of the growing number of incarcerated minors becomes more evident when there is a weak discussion of the topic as an element of politicization and socialization. For this reason, the research was carried out in order to verify how the process of re-socialization of incarcerated minors occurs, as well as to make an assessment of the Mozambican penitentiary system. The results demonstrate that the reality experienced by minors incarcerated in Mozambican prison establishments is built along the same political framework and the same system of governance, historical contexts and concepts of society in general. The research took place within the precincts of Penitentiary Establishments in the Provinces of Maputo, Manica and Nampula, in the months of October and November 2017, August, September and October 2018, August and September 2019. Regarding the target population, in the three provinces, the population consisted of a total of 191 male minors, whose ages ranged from 16 to 18 years, regardless of economic level, education and the offense they committed.
