Abstract

Facing the constant advance of industrial membranes and considering thatcompeting separation methods have been consolidated for longer, although membranes areoften discarded before a preliminary analysis, it is desired to create an evaluation protocolon the use of industrial membranes. This protocol aims to guide the reader to analyze the useof membranes in separation processes sequentially, thereby simplifying the evaluation andpromoting economic and time savings. To create the protocol, an extensive literature reviewwas conducted, collecting necessary information to conduct the design of the separationprocess with membranes, thus providing information stepwise, and sometimes presentingflowcharts to elucidate the steps arrangement. The final protocol has been proposed, allowing building, in only six steps, the basic structure of a separation process that can be agood candidate to any desired operation.
