Spalart-Allmaras S809 Aerodynamics Wind Turbine

Abstract

The S809 airfoil is one of the most widely used airfoils in low power wind turbines and has been extensively studied experimentally by several authors. For the study, the FLUENT program from the ANSYS package was used, where the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model was selected. During the study, angles of attack were used that varied from 0° to 15.2°, determining the drag and lift coefficients for each position. The numerical aerodynamic behavior of the selected airfoil presented excellent results when compared to experimental results reported in the literature. It was determined that the turbulence model used adequately represents the physical process, but from a 10.2 ° angle of attack it begins to deviate slightly from the experimental results, which can be explained due to the increase in turbulence due to the increase of the angle of attack.
