This work presents a methodology to perform simulations of cone beam tomography using the GATE code. Two computational models, ICRP110 and MASH3, were used for patient representation. For each model, 360 images were obtained representing the attenuation pattern of a 120kV photon beam when passing through the patient in a complete rotation. 3D CT images were reconstructed using a commercial program to evaluate the simulation approach, obtaining very satisfactory results. Moreover, our group found promising results using a reconstruction code under development. In addition, the deposited dose was obtained for each beam direction and the entire CT exam. The presented methodology can be used in further works to design and optimize new types of CT scanners.
